Holtom and Curran Bring Chevy's Fourth Victory of 2006

Jamie Holtom and Eric Curran gave the Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged its fourth victory of the season today at Lexington Ohio's Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The pair edged the 2005 series champions, Mazda's David Haskell and Sylvain Tremblay, and Acura's Hugh and Matt Plumb when the race ended under caution.

Cheering on the ClearSCADA Chevy Cobalt SS were over 1300 UAW workers who build the street version of the car Jamie and Eric race.

"This was the biggest win of the year for us, no doubt", said Jamie, "If there was one to win this year, this was the one. To get a victory in GM's backyard is great. The cars these men and women build are just incredible. They handle extremely well, they have great brakes and good torque to help get out of the slow corners. They really are the whole package."

Jamie started the race on pole, and with Eric, led every lap on the way to their fourth victory of 2006. The weekend did not go off without a hitch however. On the Thursday leading up to the race a rain storm destroyed Georgian Bay Motorsports' tractor-trailer awning.

"During the storm, all we could do was wait in the trailer while the tent came crashing down. Everyone pitched in after and got everything cleaned up. Luckily our cars were inside the trailer at the time and weren't damaged. It was a little more difficult dealing with the rain on Friday and the heat on Saturday and Sunday. I'm really glad I was able to reward our guys with the pole and the victory, they really earned it", stated Jamie.

Holtom's fastest lap in qualifying (1:38.184) dipped below the lap record and earned Jamie his first Grand-Am Cup pole position.

"Getting the pole at Mid-Ohio is incredible, the track really suits my driving style. I was able to string together a perfect lap, without traffic. We had made a few set-up changes prior to qualifying which really improved the car. Without those changes we would have ended up farther back."

At the start Jamie kept the car in first place and was able to pace the field throughout his stint before handing the car off to Curran at the half-way point. Curran held the lead throughout his stint and brought the ClearSCADA Cobalt its fourth win in six races.

Holtom and Curran and Georgian Bay Motorsports now lead the Drivers and Team Championships with 198 points, giving them a 34 point buffer over second place with only 4 races remaining. Chevrolet now leads the Manufacturer Championship by 13 points, also with 198 points.

The Grand-Am Cup event from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course can be seen on SPEED Channel's tape delayed broadcast July 9, 2006 at 11 Am ET.

The next event for Jamie Holtom, Eric Curran and the whole GBMS/GM Performance Division team is at the Grand-Am Cup 200 from Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama the weekend of July 28-30.
