Rum Bum Racing Heads to Mid-Ohio

Lexington, OH-16 June 2010 - Fresh from a productive test, Gian Bacardi and Matt Plumb will be ready to go at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend with the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing BMW M3 for round seven of the 2010 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge championship.

Round six, held at the historic Watkins Glen International "Grand Prix" long course, saw Rum Bum Racing putting the same playbook that put the team in Daytona's Victory Lane to use as Bacardi posted a strong qualifying result with Plumb slated to close the race out from behind the wheel. Unfortunately, the race went awry when a problem with the rear suspension ended hopes of a return to the top of the podium.

Heading to the 2.258-mile long circuit in rural Ohio, the team is not looking back and will once again target a top result. The weekend will be Bacardi's first behind the wheel of the No 13 BMW M3 Rum Bum Racing machine at Mid-Ohio, but he's got some fast laps at the track under his belts racing a previous-evolution M3. He also already knows how to find victory lane, as he scored wins in both PBOC and NASA competition as part of his preparation to step up to the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge ranks.

Bacardi's qualifying performances have ratcheted up as he's continued to build his speed with every lap he takes. The Watkins Glen round was his best qualifying to date with a run to eleventh on the legendary circuit.

"I was really confident with the car at Watkins Glen and we had a good race going until we hit the problem," said Bacardi. "I think Mid-Ohio should be a good track for us--I won't have to learn the track this weekend so hopefully we can put the car in a good position for me to turn it over to Matt for the finish. I'm really looking forward to running the new M3 there because it should be very fast. "

His co-driver Plumb has shown through the years that he's got a special flair for the technical, twisty, and undulating Mid-Ohio circuit. In 2008, Plumb led the race on his way to a dramatic podium in nearly-impossible conditions driving a Daytona Prototype at Mid-Ohio.

"Gian had a great test so we are looking forward to having a strong close to the season," said Plumb. "We've had great speed, but some bad luck has kept us from having the consistently strong finishes that we'd like to have. But we have a lot of racing ahead of us this season and Mid-Ohio should be a good place for this M3. Gian was very fast in his races at Mid-Ohio--which is impressive from a rookie because this track is so complex with the elevation changes and some blind corner entries so it's not at all a straightforward place to learn."

The Rum Bum Racing BMW has been on the road ever since the most recent round at Watkins Glen a the team stayed east for the test before continuing on to set up shop in the Columbus area for final pre-race preparations. While it has been quite some time since leaving the shop in Orlando, the frequency of outings as the team in top form and ready to go this weekend.
