McDowell impressive at first Grand Am Cup Event
May 23, 2004 -- Mont Tremblant, Canada -- Michael McDowell completed his first race running in the Grand Am Cup this weekend at Mont Tremblant. "The car, and the team were awesome and I think the whole weekend went exceptionally well," said McDowell post race. "For a first weekend with Andy (Brumbaugh) and myself being new, the team really impressed the both of us."
The Drive4USA/BGB/Finlay Motorsports/Commercial Defeasance # 83 Porsche 996 started last due to a technical infraction. Andy Brumbaugh handed the car off to McDowell at halfway and had gotten the car up to 15th position. McDowell was able to take the work Andy had done, and the fast pit stop, to get the car up to 8th position when the checkered flag came out. After the race, 2 cars ahead of them were disqualified giving McDowell and Brumbaugh 6th place points for their first race in Grand-Am Cup.
McDowell is looking forward to competing again at the next event, and intends to run the rest of the season with the team.
