Grand-Am Cup teams SpeedSource and Phoenix Promotions on pace for record number of entries.
North Canton, OH -- Two Grand-Am Cup teams - SpeedSource and Phoenix Promotions - are on pace to set personal team bests in Team Entries. SpeedSource currently has 44 entries in 7 events, and is in a position to have over 60 entries for the year. This would be an all-time record for the 19 year history of Street Stock Endurance Racing.
SpeedSource is campaigning Porsches in 3 different Grand-Am Cup classes - Grand Sport I, Grand Sport II, and Sports Touring II. The only class that SpeedSource does not compete within is the Sports Touring II class. There have been rumors of (SpeedSource owner) Sylvain (Tremblay) petitioning to have the 914 classified in STII, but nothing is official yet.
"It has been a long hard effort by the whole team to get to this point," commented Tremblay. "Our team took 1999 & 2000 off from Pro Racing to regroup. I think it is a real testament to the strength of the Grand-Am Cup series, that we are able to have 6-7 race cars at each event!"
Phoenix Promotions is also competing in three different classes - GSI, STI & STII. Phoenix Promotions has the unique distinction of running with two different manufacturers and marketing campaigns. Their two campaigns are the ORISON Marketing - Planet Earth Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette and HRPworld.com - King Motorsports Acura Integras. With 374 Street Stock Endurance entries, Phoenix Promotions is the all-time leader in this category.
"Our team has been running in this series configuration since 1983, and the health of Endurance Street Stock racing has never been better. The Team Owner Program is great, and the Split Events (i.e. GS & ST races) have made for fantastic racing and large fields." - states Phoenix Promotions Team owner Joe Nonnamaker
The next event for the Grand-Am Cup is at Mont Tremblant.
