TRG HEADS TO MOSPORT POISED FOR FIRST KONI CHALLENGE WIN OF 2007
Petaluma, Calif., June 14, 2007 -- TRG looks to complete its 2007 podium ascent at the famed Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario when Grand-Am Koni Challenge Series competitors head to Canada for Round Six of the Grand Sport (GS) schedule on June 15-16.
At the two recent Koni Challenge events at Lime Rock Park and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, TRG claimed third-place and second-place finishes respectively. Couple those positive results with TRG's history of winning at Mosport and the west coast-based team appears poised to claim victory and scale that final step atop the podium.
"We're very excited to be returning to Mosport," said TRG team owner Kevin Buckler. "TRG celebrated a huge sports car win at Mosport in 2002 and we always love coming back to build upon that history and to compete on one of the most challenging tracks on the Grand-Am schedule. Plus it's always fun to travel and race outside of the U.S. as it gives the event a true international feel."
"Over the last two races the team, the drivers and the cars have all made huge positive strides," added Buckler. "So it really seems like we're ready, willing and able to compete for our first Grand-Am GS win of the season. I'm really looking forward to this weekend at Mosport."
The No. 39 car for TRG is the Carlsen Porsche/Adam's Polishes/Digitrust entry of Duncan Ende and Grant Maiman. The pair ran several early season events for TRG with successful outings at Daytona and Homestead-Miami. Most recently, Ende and the same No. 39 car handily led its first race at the recent Lime Rock outing with a brilliant drive.
In the No. 40 entry for TRG is the Cohen Financial/CDI/Carlsen Porsche of John Bibbo and Scott Schroeder. This season-long duo has had flashes of speed and brilliance since the beginning, but it really all came together at Lime Rock where, like its No. 39 team car, led the race for quite some time before being called to pit lane for a rules technicality on the start.
In the third TRG entry will be veteran sports car driver and multiple Mosport race winner Andy Lally and teammate Ted Ballou. The driver duo of Lally and Ballou will pilot the No. 41 TRG Mitchell Global/Carlsen Porsche 997 with plans of improving on the finishes of the prior two races.
"We're going into Mosport coming off back-to-back podium finishes at Laguna Seca and Lime Rock, so we're definitely focused on the top step this time," said Lally. "This would be a wonderful track for Ted to have his first win. It's a place where I've won several times and I'm truly looking forward to going back for some more fun and some more success in Canada."
The final pairing for TRG will be the No. 42 Carlsen Porsche of Serge Glazunov, Jr. and Ludovico Manfredi. Glazanov has been blindingly fast at the last several events and is hoping for a strong finish this weekend in Canada. Ludovico is a long-time TRG driver having competed in multiple 'Daytona 24s' and many other professional events.
"The Mosport circuit is one of the most challenging tracks anywhere because it has so many high-speed corners," observed Lally. "We can attack turns one through four at really high speed and I expect that to favor our Porsches -- so I think we have an advantage over the first half of the course. But the Mustangs will probably have the advantage over the second half of the circuit, so it will be an interesting sort of chess match of us pulling away and them reeling us back in."
