Grand Am Cup Action For Second Straight Weekend

PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY, Phoenix, AZ - 05/12/2006 - Turner Motorsport is back in action this weekend in Arizona for the Avondale Twin 200 races at Phoenix International Raceway. All six Turner Motorsport drivers are anticipating excellent results this weekend with the Grand Am Cup races split into two events rather than the usual single race.

In the last two rounds of the series at Laguna Seca and Virginia Raceway, the field has swelled to over 65 entries meaning more traffic to contend with a greater number of caution periods due to accidents on course. Accidents ended the races for both Turner Motorsport BMW M3s at Laguna Seca.

Will Turner and Don Salama will take their usual place behind the wheel of the #95 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW 330i. The Turner/Salama entry are coming off a strong result last weekend after they started on the front row, led the race, then finished fifth due to heavy traffic after their pit stop.

Bill Auberlen and Chris Gleason in the #96 H&R Springs/StopTech Brakes/Gleason Insurance BMW M3 are in good spirits following their incident with a spinning car at Laguna. The Turner Motorsport crew rebuilt the car over the past week and both drivers are looking forward to getting back into their winning ways - Auberlen won this race last year in his StopTech Brakes M3.

Anders Hainer and Boris Said have also been putting up a fight in their H&R Springs/Under Armour BMW M3. After being hit by a car that lost its brakes in the early stages of last weekend's race they battled their way back up through the field. This weekend they are confident that an incident-free race will bring them another win or podium.

This weekend's races are split into separate events for the Grand Sport (GS) and Street Tuner (ST) classes. Both races will be on Saturday after a morning warm-up. The GS race is scheduled for 1:00pm (PT). The Street Tuner (ST) race is at 4:00pm (PT). Both races are 200 miles/2 hours.

The SPEED Channel will broadcast these races on Sunday, May 14 at 1:00pm (ET) and Wednesday, May 24 at 5:00pm (ET).
