DAYTONA BEACH, FL - February 1 - Seikel Motorsport, with headquarters in both Europe and North America, stole the spotlight from the American Porsche teams by being the fastest of all the Porsche teams in the GT class with both its cars for tomorrow's running of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona.
Seikel American Le Mans regulars Tony Burgess and David Shep - both from Canada, Philip Collin from Chicago, and Hugh Plumb from Chadds Ford, PA, were fastest in today's final qualifying session, putting their #57 Porsche GT3 RS second on the GT grid. The Chevrolet-powered Mosler earned the pole position in yesterday's session.
After the third-place BMW M3, the #56 Seikel Porsche, driven by the 2000 Rolex 24 GT and 2001 24 Hours of Le Mans GT winners, are fourth overall, with Fabio Rosa, Gabrio Rosa, and Luca Drudi - all from Italy - at the helm. Former F-1 and CART star Alex Caffi has joined the team for this race, as he did for their winning Le Mans effort.
Porsches took the next six positions, giving the German sports car marque eight of the top ten positions in the GT class. Overall, 32 cars will start the class - 24 of them Porsches.
The race will be televised live - the first six hours and the last four hours - on Speedvision starting at 12:30 PM Eastern time on Saturday, February 2. Speedvision will telecast a 30-minute pre-race show followed by the green flag at 1:00 PM, and will stay with the race until 7:00 PM. The network will then pick up the event on Sunday morning at 9:00 AM, and carry it through the checkered flag at 1:00 PM. Also, the more than 110 affiliates of the Motor Racing Network (MRN) nationally will provide coverage on the radio - check local listings for time in your area.
