Rum Bum Racing's Victory Trois-Rivieres Boosts BMW Championship Effort

18 August 2010- When Matt Plumb and Nick Longhi shared the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing BMW M3 to take the teams second race win of the season on Friday night, it didn't just make history as the first-ever GRAND-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge night race, as the victory also helped BMW grow its lead in the Manufacturer Championship standings with just one race remaining in the 2010 season.

The race winning championship boost marked the third time during the 2010 season that Rum Bum Racing brought BMW its best finish and earned championship markers for the roundel, which now enjoys a 28-point margin in the standings.

Despite being a 'rookie' team, the Matt Plumb-led organization has proven to be a potent ally for BMW as crew chief Joe Varde has called the shots as Rum Bum Racing for two race wins and a run to second place so far this year with drivers Gian Bacardi and Nick Longhi both having joined Plumb atop the GRAND-AM victory podium in 2010.

"The BMW M3 is a fantastic street car, and it's an absolutely unbelievable race car so we are very proud to have been able to generate a lot of championship points for BMW this year," offered Plumb. "We knew that when we were putting this organization together that we needed to not only have championship-caliber talent like Joe Varde on this side of the pit wall, but it was also important to have a car that we knew had the speed and balance to be competitive on the different kinds of tracks that we race on."

Rum Bum Racing's two wins to date couldn't have come on different circuits, as the season-opening victory at Daytona International Speedway featured a full 3.56-mile oval-based track that boasts several high speed stretches along the high banks. Fully lined by concrete walls on the temporary street circuit, the 1.51-mile track in Trois Rivieres rewards agility and braking, something that was evident as the brakes glowed in the Quebec night as the No. 13 made a successful Canadian debut.

The team will look to bookend the 2010 GRAND-AM season with a win at the season-finale event at Miller Motorsports Park on September 11th as the organization continues to grow momentum as an established threat for podiums and victories.
