MESCO Building For The Future Rookie Of The Year Award Update

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 24, 2009) - Penske Racing drivers Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard lead the standings for the MESCO Building Solutions Building for the Future Rookie of the Year Award with four races remaining in the 2009 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16.

Meanwhile, Josh Hurley leads 15 contenders for the award with three races remaining in the KONI Sports Car Challenge.

Although no strangers to endurance racing, Dumas and Bernhard are in their first season of Daytona Prototype competition, co-driving Penske Racing's No. 12 Verizon Wireless Porsche Riley. They have third-place finishes at both New Jersey Motorsports Park and the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen, and are fifth in the Daytona Prototype point standings.

Justin Marks is second, 32 points behind Dumas and Bernhard (198-166). Marks won the Acxiom GT class in the 2009 Rolex 24 At Daytona, driving the No. 67 Construct Corp./No Fear Energy Drink Porsche GT3 he shares with Andy Lally.

John Potter, driver of the No. 65 Magnus Racing Porsche GT3, is third with 148 points, followed by Scott Schroeder and Josemanuel Gutierrez - who share the No. 68 Cohen Financial Porsche GT3, with 139 points.

Running fifth with 126 points is Dane Cameron, driver of the No. 30 3Dimensional.com Mazda RX-8.

Josh Hurley took the lead in the KONI Sports Car Challenge MESCO Building for the Future Rookie of the Year Award by scoring the Street Tuner victory in the most recent race at Barber Motorsports Park. Hurley, driver of the No. 171 APR/Gunther VW Volkswagen GTI, has a 21-point lead over Bret Spaude (195-174), driver of the No. 27 Honda of Keene NH Honda Civic Si.

Mike Sweeney, driver of the No. 181 APR/BBS Volkswagen GTI, is third with 171 points, followed by Joey Hand, driver of the No. 97 Turner Motorsport BMW M3 (162), and No. 41 Magnus Racing Porsche 997 driver John Potter (150). Lawson Aschenbach and Pat Iannucci share sixth with 149 points.

The MESCO Building for the Future Rookie of the Year Awards are open to drivers who have not competed in more than four events in a single season in the respective Rolex Series and KONI Challenge since 2006, and must compete in five or more events this season.
