Craig Stanton and Tim Traver, sharing the No. 83 BGB Motorsports Porsche 997, won the Fresh from Florida 200 Koni Challenge Series race Friday at the Daytona International Speedway, crossing the finish line under the yellow flag just ahead of the No. 55 Hyper Sport Ford Mustang GT driven by Joe Foster and actor Patrick Dempsey. Scott Turner and Terry Borcheller came home third in the No. 3 Blackforest Motorsports Ford Mustang GT.
"The BGB guys did a great job," said Stanton. "At the last pit (stop), we went to four tires and we probably lost 15 seconds in the pits putting on the fronts; but we gambled a little bit that the temperature was going to go a certain direction and so we wanted a neutral car, meaning that rear didn't slide more than the front, which is usually the situation with the Porsches. So we were able to have a neutral car right up to the very end and that's something that four or five people on the team contributed to. Tim did a great job and qualified well."
In the ST class, iMOTO Racing Acura TSX's finished first and second, with Glenn Bocchino and Nick Wittmer beating Peter Cunningham and Kuno Wittmer by more than a lap. The No. 76 Compass 360 Racing Acura TSX of Karl Thomson and Travis Walker ended up third.
"When I got in the car, I found out that I was one lap ahead and then I knew I had to maintain the race to the end," said Nick Wittmer, whose team only pitted once while the rest of the front runners pitted twice. "The last lap was perfect. We could have still ran a qualifying time. It couldn't get any better than this to qualify one-two and finish one-two."
