DragonSpeed Fired Up for Koni Challenge Debut in Utah
DragonSpeed will make its professional racing debut at the penultimate round of the Grand-Am Koni Challenge Series on 21 September at Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City. The Californian team will field its dramatically-liveried Porsche 996 in the series' Grand Sport class for drivers and team principals Pete Aronson and Elton Julian, assisted by veteran crew chief Glenn Yee.
DragonSpeed is a Los Angeles-based racing and driver development operation formed in late 2006, providing arrive-and-drive programs for racing, testing, track days, and special events. The team also offers driver coaching, race car preparation, and trackside support services. Full details can be found at www.dragon-speed.net.
Pete Aronson, 42, is a Founding Partner of Generate, a cross-platform media production company in Santa Monica, California. With Elton Julian's help, the New York native and former Firehawk series racer has been honing his driving skills in preparation for his racing return. "I can't imagine having had a better coach than Elton for building up my technique and mental approach. I'm looking forward to co-driving with him in the race as well, and hope I can use everything I've learned to contribute to a good result for DragonSpeed at Miller."
Ecuadorean-American Elton Julian, 33, has competed at inter national level over the last 15 years in both single-seaters (up to Formula 3000) and sportscars (including Le Mans), but Miller will be his first ever outing as a team principal. "It's a great feeling to make our debut in the Koni Challenge after spending the last year and a half putting DragonSpeed together with Pete. Our goal is big time sportscar racing and this is the ideal first step. The Grand-Am paddock is also full of old friends, from Mark Raffauf to old rivals from Europe and the States, which makes it even better."
Crew Chief Glenn Yee, 54, whose resume includes Rolex Series competition and winning the NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill enduro, is equally pleased to rejoin the Grand-Am fray. "It's good to be back at this level, especially with a team as promising as DragonSpeed. Pete and Elton have put a lot into the program and I'd like to help them achieve the results they deserve."
