Alton, VA - (Oct 5, 2003) Series rookies Guy Cosmo and Mark Plummer took the STI Class victory at Virginia International Raceway on Oct 4. It was the second consecutive win for Cosmo in the #83 Duane Neyer Motorsports BMW Z3. It was also the first race win ever for 20-year old Mark Plummer. The 3-hour contest featured a heated battle for the lead with some venerable drivers and teams in the competition. Prior to his first start and win in Grand Am Cup competition at Mont Tremblant, Cosmo, an open-wheel champion and prototype driver, had never raced in any production-based series.

"You never expect to just jump into some racing formula and dominate," said Cosmo, "But I stepped into this the right way. I have a great team, a great car, we had great strategy, and I've had great co-drivers working with me. I was fortunate to be in a position to show what I can do and I'm going to keep fighting for wins. This is what racing is about when you get everything right and everyone is working together, and Duane Neyer Motorsports is doing just that."

Plummer qualified 6th in class, starting 31st overall. Plummer fought his way to 4th when he handed the car over to Cosmo. Guy worked his way up to 2nd and was closing on class leader Bill Auberlen in the final 30 minutes of the race when the leader lost his engine. Cosmo lead the remainder of the race and took the checker 12th overall, his second consecutive win in two GAC starts.

Cosmo, the 2002 Star Mazda Champion, is earning a reputation as a flexible driver who quickly adapts to different formats and vehicles. In 2003 he has competed in 5 Rolex Daytona Prototype races with three podiums and has been an active prototype driver in the American Le Mans Series. He has driven two STRANA Super Truck demonstration races and served as a test driver in the development of the new Star Mazda formula race car which will debut in 2004.

The 3 Hours of VIR race will be broadcast in a special two-hour show on Speed Channel Saturday, Oct 11 at 1:00 pm EST.
