RUM BUM RACING TO START CONTINENTAL SPORTS CAR CHALLENGE BOSCH ENGINEERING 200 FROM 24TH

DANVILLE, Virginia, 23 April - The Rum Bum Racing BMW M3 aims to light up tomorrow's race from the 24th starting position after Gianluis Bacardi drove a steady qualifying session, it having been his first time behind the wheel when it counts at Virginia International Raceway. He covered the 3.27 mile layout in just 2:07.200 sec for an average speed of 92.547 mph.

Co-driver and coach Matt Plumb complimented his protege for driving within his limits while facing a steep learning curve at a track he has little experience on.

"Gianluis did a fine job considering his inexperience here at a track that can be very daunting. The race isn't won in qualifying, but as the saying goes, it could have been lost there if he had tried to take on more than he could handle. For a 20 year old running in his first pro series, that takes a some maturity and he came through well," said Plumb

Bacardi was more succinct in his self assessment.

"Yeah, it was good," he said with a cheeky smile hinting he would have loved nothing more than putting the bit more firmly between his teeth. Nevertheless, he knows his mission was accomplished. Already this season, the pair have set a good precedent with starting deep in the field and then charging to the front. They started from the 20th position at Daytona, a race they won, and from 23rd at Homestead, a race they very nearly won.
