Brumbaugh is Fast With Team Lexus

COLUMBIA, SC -- (June 21, 2004) -- Professional open wheel racing star Andy Brumbaugh raced with Team Lexus in the Sport Touring class of the Grand Am Cup at Watkins Glen June 18-19. This was Brumbaugh's second consecutive start in the Grand Am Cup after competing at Mt. Tremblant last month in the GS class. Brumbaugh drove the #0 Team Lexus Lexus IS300 along with co-driver Eddie Mady of Boca Raton, FL. Team Lexus was very competitive with all three cars running in the top ten and battling for the class win before settling for a contested second place finish.

"Driving for Team Lexus was a great experience," said Brumbaugh. "I couldn't believe the power and handling of the Lexus. What a delight to drive! Eddie and I had fun together this weekend. We were doing well until just before the driver change. Unfortunately Eddie was punted from behind and into the gravel at Turn 1. Getting unstuck led to a green flag driver change instead of the planned yellow (and there were certainly a lot of yellows!). That meant I took over three laps down but the Lexus was great and I was able to get it back into the top ten. Then it was my turn to get punted. A competitor's impossible overtaking attempt in Turn 11 led to me getting tagged in the rear quarter-panel and knocked into the gravel myself. Team Lexus deserved better. It is a great car and team. I hope to be back."

"Andy did an incredibly professional job at Watkins Glen. There was no test day on Thursday and Andy only had a few laps to learn the car on Friday," said Team Manager Chuck Goldsborough. "He drove a smart, clean and fast race. Andy put down a time during the race that was only about 1% off the best times of the very talented professional drivers in the other Team Lexus cars who have driven these cars for years. This kid has tremendous potential."

Away from Grand Am competition Andy is a student at the University of South Carolina, as well as an active driver coach and instructor. He also competes in vintage racing with Amalfi Racing.
