After showing that our combination of drivers, car and team had the speed to run up front against the best competition in North American Road Racing, our goal going into the Watkins Glen event was to put that speed with some reliability and consistency to get to the checker.

At Watkins Glen, it seemed we could never really get the set ups right that the drivers felt comfortable with. We were making major changes between each session and never seemed to hit it right on the money. Driver Romeo Kapudija put the car through the paces in qualifying finishing the session with 21st starting position. Heading into the race, the team ran into some additional troubles that had Romeo start from Pit Lane in 44th position. “I’ve never had to start from pit lane before, and you almost feel like the bottom dropped out on your weekend before the race even starts, I just had to regain my focus knowing I had a lot of spots to make up.” Kapudija stated, “Luckily, after fighting set ups the whole weekend, the car felt good during my stint”.

Obviously discouraged by the starting position, a very determined Romeo quickly started clicking off competitors. After three laps Romeo had the #58 SpeedQuest Racing Mustang Cobra SVT in 26th overall position. The yellow flags allowed the field to come back to Romeo during his stint and after one hour he had the #58 entry up to 9th position for an excellent run. With two laps to go until coming in to turn the car over to co-driver Adam Pecorari, Romeo had passed one of the silver Nissan 350Z’s for seventh place when that Nissan decided to punt Romeo into the gravel trap bringing out a full course caution and putting the #58 entry a lap down and in 36th position.

Adam Pecorari takes over, and those necessary yellow flags from Romeo’s stint came back to haunt Adam has he had only five green flag laps in over an hour of driving. Adam did a great job in taking back 12 positions to finish the event in 24th overall position and 20th in GS class. “It’s really too bad that after Romeo had the great drive to 9th position, he got sent into the gravel. We would have had a great chance to be in the top-10 had we not gone a lap down and I get the car in with normal conditions, but that’s racing,” said Pecorari. “With only 5 laps under green I did all I could do to advance positions, but we will go to Mosport next week with a goal we believe is attainable.”
