Scott Pruett currently leads the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series with four wins in the season's first six races in his #01 Telmex Lexus. He'll be racing in this weekend's EMCO Gears Classic Rolex Series race at Mid-Ohio, as well as the Toyota/Savemart 300 Sprint Cup Series race at Sonoma, Calif. in the #41 Target car for Chip Ganassi Racing. Each day, he'll provide a diary of his attempt to run two races across three time zones.

Friday, June 20

Not surprisingly, today was a busy day.

I arrived at the track here in Sonoma about 7 a.m. Right off the bat, I had to register and upgrade my Nationwide membership up to a full Cup membership. Once things in credentialing were squared away, I went and visited with the guys on the team. We talked about our day and what we wanted to get done in the #41 Target car and then put all of our focus on going racing.

In practice, we just worked on the race set-up and did some long runs. I think we have a reasonable car. The consistency was pretty good and overall we ran pretty well.

During the day I had a little time to catch up with some old friends. I spent some time with all of the TRD guys (Toyota Racing Development), as well as old friend Andy Graves. It was nice to catch up with people you don't normally see during a busy racing season.

Then came qualifying and truthfully, I was a little disappointed with our performance. It's 105 degrees here today, which is smoking hot for this part of the country at this time of the year. We just seemed to slide around and really didn't have any bite during our run. We went out very early in the session (sixth of 47) and that probably didn't help us with the heat, but we'll just make the most of it.

With my qualifying run over, I talked with the team a little bit about what we wanted to do for the race. With that done, my focus is now totally on Mid-Ohio and Grand-Am. I gave the team a call and all the reports from the track are really good. Memo qualified a strong fourth in our #01 Telmex Lexus, so we're in a good position for the race.

Right now, the plan is to meet the Ganassi Grand-Am team in the lobby at 7 a.m. We have more than an hour and a half of practice on tomorrow's schedule -- which is really the major reason we decided we could run both races this weekend. I'll likely run the entire first session, so I'll have a full hour in the car before the race.

Well, it's off to the airport to head to Mid-Ohio. If we don't have too much traffic, we should have wheels up on Chip's jet by 6 p.m. here in California. It's a good four hours or so to Mid-Ohio, so I expect to arrive at the hotel somewhere between 2 and 3 a.m. So by the time we land, it will be race day!
