PRUETT LOOKS FOR INFINEON REPEAT -- Few drivers know the twists and turns of Infineon Raceway better than northern California native Scott Pruett. That experience was evident a year ago when Pruett and then co-driver Luis Diaz registered a stirring come-from-behind Rolex Sports Car Series victory on the 2.52-mile road course.
After starting fourth, Diaz was knocked off track while lapping another driver, resulting in a full-course caution on Lap 22. Pruett then took over behind the wheel and charged up from 15th to move into the lead by Lap 72. He then went on to lead the final 28 laps on his "home" track. The victory was Pruett's third in Sonoma, with this year's race marking the 20-year anniversary of his first major Infineon victory, coming in Trans-Am competition in 1987. The Auburn, Calif., resident also has a second-place at the track in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup competition. Overall, he's earned no less than eight career podium finishes there.
POINTS RACE COMING DOWN TO THE WIRE -- Scott Pruett will enter this weekend's race in a tie for the championship lead in the most hotly-contested battle in Rolex Sports Car Series. The top three entries are all within four points heading into the final two races of the season.
AND HOW HE ARRIVED THERE... - If Scott Pruett earns a second Rolex Series Driver's Championship, consistency will likely be the key ingredient. The six-time sports car champion has two victories, seven top-three podium finishes, 10 top-five showings and has finished in the top-10 in each of the series 12 races to date. In fact, Pruett now has a streak of 17 consecutive top-10 finishes dating back to June 2006.
NOT THE ONLY TITLE UP FOR GRABS -- While Scott Pruett tries to capture the Driver's Championship, his Chip Ganassi Racing team also is in the midst of a point battle. The #01 Telmex Lexus-Riley is currently tied with SunTrust Racing on top of the standings, just four points ahead of third-place Gainsco Racing, as the team tries to capture a third Rolex Sports Car Series Team Championship in the last four years.
While Ganassi is at the top of the team point standings, three other Lexus-powered teams are also currently ranked in the top-10. J
After starting the season with only finish better than ninth in the season's first six races, the #60 Michael Shank Racing entry driven by Oswaldo Negri and Mark Patterson has climbed up to sixth in points after six consecutive top-10 finishes. The second Michael Shank Racing entry, the #6 Lexus-Riley also is squarely in the top-10 in the eighth position. The first-year AIM Autosport team rounds out Lexus' top-10 contingent in the ninth position with the #61 Exchange Traded Gold Lexus-Riley.
