DAVY JONES COMPLETES FIRST DAY AT MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK
Tooele, Utah - September 10th, 2010 - Davy Jones and the Dyson Racing/Godstone Ranch Motorsports crew completed their first official day of competition in the #16 Texas Heart Institute/Roush-Yates Ford powered Lola as they prepare to make their 2010 debut at the Utah 250, final round of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.
Jones ran into a bizarre problem during the qualifying session for his first Daytona Prototype start of the year. Only seconds after going out on track the right side door of his Lola chassis flew off after a quick spin and for the rest of the session he was forced to run with no door which seriously hampered the car's aerodynamics. He will line up 13th on the grid with a lap of 1m51.196s. Jones will take the green flag for the 2hr45min race tomorrow and will look to climb through the field before handing over the controls of their #16 "Heart" car to McCutchen, he will then return to the car towards the end of the race to take the checkered flag.
The Dyson Racing/Godstone Ranch Motorosport teammates, Jones and John McCutchen II, had a chance to get familiar with the Miller Motorsports Park layout on Thursday behind the wheel of a Momentum Race Group Camaro GS during a Continental Tire Challenge promoter test, and today got to apply that knowledge and went around the same 3.048-mile track in their much more powerful an faster Daytona Prototype.
Davy Jones
"It was a good first day for us, considering that we've had extremely limited practice time and that we are coming in at the end of the season we have been able to get up to speed and work through our program. We were hoping to do a bit better in qualifying but I had a quick spin and I let the car roll backwards a little bit so I wouldn't hurt the tires and the door just flew off. So for the rest of the session I had to run like that and it obviously wasn't good at all for aerodynamics. We still have to find more time, but we are gelling with the team and together we are learning what the car wants, we just need more laps.
"We are also very happy because we have a lot of friends here with us from Edge Eyewear, and a lot of Monavie reps have stopped by to say hello as well. We also have Ally Smith as our special guest, she is the Texas Heart Institute's "Bionic Bride" who has an artificial heart pump implant and it's just amazing to see in person the great work that the Institute does and how they can save lives. We are going to work very hard to get a good result for everybody tomorrow."
