Bell Set for Rolex Series Return After Getting Daytona Prototype Call-Back From Doran Racing
Tooele, UT (7 September 2010) - Every notable career, be it in acting or racing, hinges on what happens in auditions.
And when Matt Bell got his first Daytona Prototype race start with Doran Racing in Rolex Sports Car Series competition at New Jersey Motorsports Park, it's safe to say that he aced the audition.
Despite the fact that Bell had never driven a single lap in a Daytona Prototype before the weekend started, he impressed in qualifying before setting a pace in the race that earned him the Jim Trueman award in a outstanding debut.
That effort earned the young Californian a call-back, as Doran Racing has selected Bell to team with fellow young racer Dion von Moltke this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park for the Rolex Sports Car Series season-finale as the two team up in the No. 77 South African Airways/PRNewswire Ford-Dallara. The pairing could well reflect the future look of the Rolex Series, as the duo have both shown rapid ascension in the GRAND-AM ranks and are the youngest driver pairing set to take the grid this Saturday.
"I'm really excited about getting back into the Daytona Prototype this weekend," said Bell. "I'm flattered to be invited back and getting the call from Kevin (Doran) is a big boost for me. In New Jersey, I had to take in a lot new data and process it over the weekend because I'd never driven anything like that before. I was happy with how quickly we were up to speed. I'm anxious to get back into the car with more confidence, knowing ahead of time what the car is capable of. I can't wait -- the start of this weekend can't come fast enough for me!"
Bell won't just be thinking about tire management during the event, as schedule management will also be key as he'll once again be in Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge action at Miller, teaming with Jeff Bucknum in the No. 6 Sunoco Fuels Chevrolet Camaro for the final race of the 2010 season.
Bell and Bucknum enter the weekend fresh from a run to the podium at Trois-Rivieres, and with Bell having scored the machine's first pole and lead laps, the duo is looking to close the year out with another set of new accomplishments for the Camaro.
"I've learned so much this year, working with the Camaro and being a part of Stevenson Motorsports' development program for the car," said Bell. "We've had some ups and downs, and some really challenging weekends, but I'm really pleased with the rapid development of the Camaro. I think the whole experience has made me a better driver, learning the process and development curve. We've been on the pole, led laps, and now have two podium finishes, so of course we are hoping the we can close this year out with a win at Miller. It's going to be a long day, but I can't wait!"
