Matt Bell a Fast Learner in Daytona Prototype Qualifying at Miller

Tooele, UT (10 September 2010) - The new guy was once again making a stir on Friday at Miller Motorsports Park.

Matt Bell impressed in just his second-ever Daytona Prototype qualifying effort as he nabbed a spot on the fourth row for Saturday's GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Miller 250 at Miller Motorsports Park with the No. 77 Ford-powered Dallara for Doran Racing. Bell will open the 2.75-hour race from behind the wheel before turning the South African Airways/McDonalds machine over to fellow young gun Dion von Moltke.

Saturday's race marks Bells second-ever Daytona Prototype race start, having scored the Jim Trueman Award in his first DP start at New Jersey Motorsports Park in July.

Bell will start one spot ahead of 2004 and 2010 Rolex 24 At Daytona Champion Terry Borcheller and alongside 2009 Rolex 24 winner Darren Law, who recently celebrated his 100th career Daytona Prototype start.

The15-minute session saw Bell continuing to improve as he moved forward on the grid with a quick time of 1:45.776-seconds around the 3.048-mile circuit west of Salt Lake City. The effort marks another notch on his quick-learning belt as the young Californian prepares to make just his second Daytona Prototype start after showing yet more poise, speed, and progress in just his third day ever in a Daytona Prototype.

Bell had a busy day, as he also took to the track in a completely different machine as he strapped into the No. 6 Sunoco Fuels Camaro for Stevenson Motorsports in preparation for the Continental Tire SPorts Car Challenge race that will follow the Rolex event on Saturday.

"This is the first time for Dion and I both to be running this track in a Daytona Prototype, and it's very different from New Jersey so I'm leaning a lot, as quickly as I can," said Bell as he was interviewed for SPEED Channel's live streaming of the qualifying session. "We've made a lot of progress with the car and hopefully we can keep improving for the race. I'm getting better at switching between the two cars, but it is still a challenge because everything is so completely different. I was hoping to be even closer to the front, but I'm my own biggest critic. I still don't have that many laps in a DP, and not many laps on this track so it was a good start to the weekend. We'll just keep working on the car in the warm-up and hopefully be able to move up in the race."

Bell's Saturday will also be a busy one, as he will practice the Daytona Prototype before moving the the Continental Tire Challenge Camaro for qualifying and then returning to the cockpit of the Daytona Prototype for the start of the race. Raceday is not done just yet, as Bell will have another race to run as the Continental Tire Challenge stages its final race of the season.
