ALTON, Va. (October 8, 2005) -- Qualifying for tomorrow's Rolex Sports Car Series VIR 400k at Virginia International Raceway was rained out after persistent showers again plagued the South Virginia circuit. As a result, the starting grid was determined on team point standings per the Grand American rulebook, giving CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and drivers Scott Pruett and Luis Diaz their seventh front-row start in 13 races this season.

The no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley driver duo will again do battle with championship rivals SunTrust Racing, as the two Daytona Prototypes will start on the front row together as determined by their tally of championship markers with 379 (SunTrust) and 340 (CompUSA).

"We knew the cancellation was a distinct possibility with the weather we've had this weekend, so it's fortunate for us we're second in points in this situation," said defending Rolex Series champion Pruett. "There's not much more we can do but try and keep the championship fight alive and take it to Mexico City next month."

Teammate Diaz would have qualified the car as has been the case in the majority of the 250-mile "sprint" races this season, but instead got some valuable seat time despite the cancellation of qualifying.

"I'm not sure if we would have been able to get the car on the front row or not if the session was dry, but we'll take what we're given," said Diaz, who set fast time in the voluntary 30-minute rain-soaked practice session that replaced qualifying. "We were able to get a better feel for the car and make some more changes, so hopefully we can apply what we learned today to tomorrow's race."
