The Racer's Group hits bad luck for the first time this season.

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - Aug. 8, 2002 - After a flawless season, The Racer's Group experienced some bad luck during Thursday morning's practice session in preparation for the Grand American Road Racing Bully Hill Vineyards 250 at Watkins Glen International that takes place on Friday, Aug. 9. The Racer's Group/mail2web.com car No. 66 suffered a right front suspension failure and lost complete steering as it went into the wall as the car was headed up the hill through the high speed esses halfway into the practice session. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS was piloted by team owner and driver Kevin Buckler. The team will field both the No. 66 and No. 67 cars this weekend.

The car sustained damage to all four corners as it hit the guardrail and careened up the track. The entire wheel assembly which failed was thrown more than 100 yards from the car. Buckler managed to walk away with minor injuries. Buckler and co-driver Michael Schrom will start last on the grid for tomorrow evening's race due to not being able to qualify the car. Buckler and Schrom are the highest points scoring GT team this season in the Grand Am series.

The Racer's Group crew will work into the night to prepare the car for tomorrow's race, with no practice time beforehand to shakedown the newly rebuilt car. The team is unsure they will be able to make the start of the race.

The Racer's Group is a manufacturer and distributor of high performance Porsche parts, an engine and chassis building and tuning facility, a full service Porsche prep facility and a professional race team. Additionally, they provide electrical and mechanical engineering services, driver development and "arrive and drive" services. They are also the North American distributor of the UNICHIP, a fully programmable piggyback computer system that enhances the performance of streetcars and currently support approximately 130 dealers in the U.S. The Racer's Group is based at Infineon Raceway, formally Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
