Grand American drivers rev up for Sahlen's Sports Car Grand Prix with go-kart race
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 16, 2003) -- With Must See TV in reruns for the summer, you have no reason not to head out to the Slick Track on Thursday night, June 19, when some of your favorite sports car drivers from the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series and the Grand-Am Cup Series take on a different kind of racing. This annual event kicks off the Sahlen's Sports Car Grand Prix race weekend, which includes the legendary Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen.
Held at the KG Motors Slick Track across from the Arnot Mall in Horseheads, the event will consist of seven teams including a Rolex Series team, two Grand-Am Cup teams, a Grand American official team and a Watkins Glen International and Sahlen's team. Action begins at 7 p.m.
Some drivers expected to participate in the event include David Donohue, No. 58 Brumos Racing Porsche FABCAR Daytona Prototype, Darren Law, No. 8 G&W Motorsports BMW Picchio 95.1 The Nerve/Sahlen's DP2 Daytona Prototype, Brian Cunningham, No. 69 Marcus Motorsports BMW M3, Cort Wagner, No. 33 Scuderia Ferrari of Washington Ferrari 360GT, along with Joao Barbosa, No. 31 Mosler Automotive #31 Mosler MT900R. In its fourth year, the race will be an hour and a half, with mandatory driver changes at different points during the race. Halfway through the race, the race will be red flagged in order to invert the field. Trophies will be awarded to the winning team. Fans are invited to get autographs of and cheer for their favorite drivers, professional or amateur.
