AGT Completes Ponce Grand Prix, Points Chase Tight Heading To Dominican Republic

Ponce, Puerto Rico- The American GT Challenge series concluded the first of two island events at the Ponce Grand Prix. The AGT competed using the 'island' format of racing utilizing a dual race system. AGT Championship points were awarded for each race following the AGT points system.

Mandy Gonzalez [number 35 Corvette] made his American GT Chalenge debut during the Ponce Grand Prix. Gonzalez finished first in the morning event and scored a second place finish during the late afternoon race which was halted at the halfway point due to darkness.

Edison Lluch [number 72 Don Q/Eltuque Corvette] entered the Ponce Grand Prix third in overall AGT championship points two points behind Charlie Webster. Lluch split his weekend events by earning a second and first place in the morning and afternoon races respectively. Lluch will go to the season ending event one point ahead of Webster in pursuit of the drivers' championship.

For Charlie Webster [number 95 C.J. Webster of Canada Corvette] track activities brought about various required repairs. Webster damaged the nose of his Corvette during an early session. In the first race, Webster took a podium finish with a third place result. Then just prior to the start of the second race, the Webster team was forced to build a new rear end from a collection of parts, some donated by other teams. Webster soldiered on to achieve third place finish in the afternoon event. Webster will now head to the Dominican Republic event just one point behind Lluch in championship.

Kenny Bupp [number 17 Hamilton Safe and Security Camaro] debuted his team at Ponce. Bupp will travel with the AGT to the next island event at the Autodromo Las Americas in the Dominican. Bupp drove to a pair of fourth place finishes for the two events at Ponce.

The AGT series will head to the Dominican Republic for the October 31 event. A field of over 20 cars are expected on the tentative entry list. Representing the United States will be Woodson Duncan, Jerry Lustig, and Kenny Bupp. The all Canadian team will have Jim Holtom and Charlie Webster in presence.

Events Notes

* Jorge Diaz, Jr. won the local club category of the Ponce Grand Prix. Club rules allow the car to be prepared at a much lower weight than the standard AGT rules package, while maintaining the same engine size and drive train specifications.

* Jerry Lustig debuted the new IGT class of American GT. Lusting finished thirteenth overall during Race One.

* Gene Tataryn was unable to make the grid for either race. Tataryn lost the motor in his Paradigm Autosport Camaro during warmup. The team was unable to make repairs.

* Jim Holtom in the number 38 Scadapack Corvette was not able to compete. The team had engine issues, a broken lifter, and were unable to repair the car. Repairs are scheduled and the team intends to compete at the Dominican.
