The 2009 Australian GT Champion David Wall has kicked off his 2010 campaign in perfect style - scoring three wins from three starts in this weekend's Clipsal 500 in his Wall Racing Porsche Cup S sponsored by Wilson Security.
David who returns to the Australian GT Championship in the same car that he drove to victory in the 2009 series, did not have things all his own way and was pushed hard in every session.
In an interrupted qualifying session David struggled to get a clean lap before setting a time that qualified him in 3rd place for race one.
David was caught out by a slow Peter Hackett off the start and dropped back to 4th place on the first lap.
David was able to work his way up into 2nd place by lap 3 before being locked in a tight battle for 1st place with Max Twigg.
The experience Twigg is also running in a Porsche Cup S, although without the parity adjustments that David is running.
With just two laps remaining David forced his way through on Twigg to take victory in the first race of the season.
His race win was not only his first for the year, but it was the first win for a Wilson Security backed car.
Race two was a lights to flag win for David. Starting from pole position David got an excellent jump at the start and he was pushed hard by Twigg during the race. Twigg retired from the race in the closing stages allowing David to come home with a 6 second gap back to Greg Crick in a Dodge Viper.
The third and final 11 lap race of the weekend was held just before the main V8 Supercar race on Sunday meaning that the stands were full.
David was beaten off the start by a hard charging Greg Crick. With his lights on, David pushed hard, filling Crick's mirrors with his Porsche.
On lap 7 David snuck past Crick on turn 4 and into the lead. Crick stayed right on David's tail with Peter Hackett right behind him for the remainder of the race. David crossed the line and took the lead by just 2 seconds.
David was obviously pleased to have kicked off his 2010 Championship in such dominant fashion.
"I was not expecting to be this successful early on but I could not have asked for a better start to the season - it has been a fairy tale result," said David.
"I had not completed a lap in the car since we finished the final race of the championship at Homebush last year so I was slightly nervous about how the car would compare with the newer cars on the track.
"To have secured Wilson Security their first race win is a great way to thank them and all my long term sponsors including Shannons, Payce and Mount Aqua for their support this weekend.
"It was hard work this weekend and I am not expecting to have it all my own way this year - there are probably ten drivers in the 30 car field who are capable of winning a race this year.
"The weekend has been a great success for Wall Racing - it is great to be running with my family team again. The support and dedication of every team member has been fantastic all weekend.
"With less than two weeks before we head to round two there will not be much time to make changes to the car, but there are a few minor tweaks we will make in preparation for the next round."
The season will continue at the 2010 Formula One Qantas Australian Grand Prix.
