WEIGHT ENDS GEDDIE & ASHBURN'S WINNING STREAK

Aberdeen's Glynn Geddie and Trackspeed co-driver David Ashburn were unable to continue their winning roll in Rounds 9 and 10 of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Snetterton this weekend. A disastrous qualifying session, coupled with the success ballast on their Porsche 997 GT3R, meant 4th and 9th places were all the Trackspeed pair were able to achieve.

Ashburn put the car P4 on the grid for Round 9 in the first session of qualifying, however the exhaust manifold failed as Apex Tubulars-backed Geddie was on his out lap in session two. He managed to set a time, albeit 6.630secs off the pole time of the Predator CCTV Ferrari 430, and had to settle for 13th on the grid for Round 10.

As Round 9 got underway Ashburn did a solid job to hold on to P4 before handing the car over to Geddie after 23 minutes of the one-hour race.

With a heavy car Geddie managed to cling on to the position and maintained it to the finish with a skillful drive, staying clear of trouble in a drama-filled race and narrowly missing out on a podium to the RPM Ford GT by just over 3 seconds.

Starting all the way back in P13 for Round 10 Geddie quickly got up into 8th position in the opening 10 minutes and closed in on the Chad Racing Ferrari 430 in the hunt for 7th. However he was unable to make a break for position with the car carrying 75kg of success ballast and pitted while in P9 to put Ashburn in the harness after 40 minutes.

For the remaining 20 minutes Ashburn kept the Barwell Aston DBRS9 at bay and put in a decent performance to bring the car across the line in P9, a lap down on championship rivals and race winners, Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin in the MTECH Ferrari.

Glynn Geddie:
"We've had a really difficult weekend and with an extra 75kg on the car, we stood no chance. We were able to catch the faster cars through the corners but on the straights they just obliterated us - it's really frustrating as the lap pace was there but we just didn't have the outright pace that we needed.

"In Race 1 David did a good job to keep us in 4th by the stop and from there I just had to drive round, avoid the carnage and carry the position to the flag.

"We were just at too much of a disadvantage after qualifying so far down for Race 2 to bring home a solid result. I made up some places in the first part of the race but by then the leaders were so far in front it was never on to be in a position to threaten them.

"I'm sure we will bounce back from this weekend though and get back to our usual ways for the last three rounds."

With Rounds 11 and 12 taking place at Brands Hatch GP in four weeks time, Ashburn still leads the championship with Geddie slipping to 3rd from joint 2nd on 51 points after Cameron and Griffin's win both now having 57 points.
