GEDDIE & ASHBURN DO THE DOUBLE
Glynn Geddie and team mate David Ashburn claimed dominant victories in Rounds 6 and 7 of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Rockingham this weekend, handing the Trackspeed team their maiden win this season and giving Ashburn the championship lead.
Ashburn qualified the number 7 Porsche 997 GT3R in P2 on the grid and held position with a strong stint before handing over to Aberdeen's Geddie, just 7 seconds behind the leading Mosler of Martin Short and Gregor Fisken.
The Trackspeed entry was given the lead after the Mosler was handed a stop/go penalty for a pitlane infringement, leaving Apex Tubulars-backed Geddie to put in consistent lap times in the 1.23's. However with five laps of the race left the fuel light came on, allowing the now 2nd placed Mosler to start gaining some ground while Geddie was forced to cruise to save fuel.
He kept it together and brought the car home with a 7 second lead, presenting the Surrey-based concern a well deserved win and a perfect start to the weekend.
Geddie started this afternoon's Race 2 from pole position but got out-dragged by the MTECH Ferrari of Matt Griffin on the run down to Turn 2. He stuck with Griffin and snatched the lead in the pitlane with a swift driver change which enabled Ashburn to keep it out front for the remainder of the race, finishing just over 15 seconds in front of their championship rivals.
Glynn Geddie:
"This has just been a perfect weekend from start to finish and everyone
in the team has made a valuable contribution to make the double possible.
It's been the first result we've had since knowing that I'm competing the
rest of the championship in the car so to get two wins is a massive
confidence booster for everyone in the team, and I see no reason why we
can't fight for more big prizes in the remaining races.
"David is now top of the driver standings which is a good reflection of just how well he has been driving this season and how hard everyone has been working. I'm now up to 4th in the tables having only competed in four of seven races this season so we have a commanding position to go into Silverstone next month."
Geddie will be back out on track in the 4 hour Britcar meeting at Snetterton next weekend.
