BGTC: Nathan Freke enters British GT4 series

Century Motorsport Enter G4 In Collaboration With Chad Racing

The newly created G4 class - comprising homologated GT4 and Supersports cars - looks like getting off to an encouraging start, with at least seven cars expected for the season opener at Oulton Park at Easter. The latest team to sign up is a significant one, and for more than one reason.

Nathan Freke, Team Principal of Century Motorsport, had a toe-in-the-water outing at Donington Park last July with his Ginetta G50 before concentrating on the Ginetta G50 Cup, which he claimed as his own in dominant style; his winning margin over the championship runner-up being 125 points.

For 2010, Freke has decided that the British GT Championship is where he wants to be and he will be joined in the G50 by Danish driver Vibe Smed.

Smed is known to British motorsport through her Britcar exploits in the CTR/Alfatune Porsche in 2009, but switches series this year under a very interesting tie-up with Chad Racing;"Vibe is a Chad Racing Junior driver and we are looking to develop a clear route for drivers into international sports cars via GT4," said Chad Team Manager Piers Masarati. "Chad are running a large British GT and European program in GT3, so it made sense for us to form a relationship with Nathan and Century Motorsport. Nathan as we know from last year is an exceptional driver and Vibe will develop massively from driving with him this year! Century and Chad are both young teams with the same values and I'm sure this won't be the only collaboration together."

"We are very pleased to have signed Vibe to co drive with me in the GT4 series," said Freke. "The combination will enable us to run at the front and whilst missing a round [Spa] will make winning the series difficult, it is not impossible."

Century will be skipping the 2.5 hour race at Spa due to other commitments - the team running no fewer than four cars in the TOCA-supporting G50 Cup - but are sure to be front-runners in the other races.

'I'm looking forward to my third consecutive year in British motorsport," said Smed, who becomes the first female driver in the series since Rachel Green in 2008. "I've enjoyed every bit of it; the tracks are great, and the teams and organizers are very professional. Racing with Nathan, whom I know as a first class race driver, is the best possible opportunity to be competitive in 2010.
