Paul Ricard - 4th July 2010. This last weekend the third meeting of the GT4 European Cup took place on the Paul Ricard circuit. DVB Racing made their appearance here in the south of France with the young duo comprised of Ruben Maes and Enzo Ide, both making their European debut in the BMW M3. In addition Ide only had three races under his belt prior to this weekend.

Free practice sessions

During the first free practice session there was a moment of panic for Dimitri Vanbeneden's team, when there immediately appeared to be a problem with the drive shaft. "I suspect it was a fault in the material," the team manager commented, "because this was a brand new and unused driveshaft." In the second practice session the young lions, who also compete in the Belcar in a ProSpeed Porsche, optimised the car's set-up resulting in a ninth best time.

Qualifying

For DVB Racing the qualifying sessions ran reasonably well, even though they had trouble finding the ideal set-up. "The BMW's major problem is the Michelin tyres... Unable to solve the problem and if it carries on like this we will be forced to scrap the BMW out of the GT4 series. In fact we aren't the first BMW to be battling with this problem," Vanbeneden explained. The BMW finally twice clocked up a tenth best time.

Race 1

With the Maserati works team and Alessandro Pierguidi as their driver DVB Racing had a serious competitor in the GT4 event. The Italian won the first race, with the BMW M3 of Maes and Ide finishing in ninth place even though this duo could have finished higher up. Enzo Ide adds a few comments: "During Ruben's stint the car experienced a few problems with its ABS, making it petty difficult for me to brake properly."

Race 2

In the second race it went somewhat better for DVB Racing. Enzo Ide took a flying start and Maes continued in the same manner, resulting in a fourth place. "I'm satisfied with this performance, even though I would have preferred finishing one place higher," Maes laughed, "but here in Paul Ricard the car was on its absolute limit and thanks to the work put in by the team we have brought it through to a happy ending..." Thanks to this performance DVB Racing is now in fourth place in the team ranking.

The following meeting of the GT4 European Cup takes place on 29th August at the Nurburgring in Germany. In addition the team will also be competing in the 24 Hours of Spa, even though DVB Racing is still looking for drivers in Francorchamps.
