Podium for SRT in Lédenon

Lédenon. "The first and main objective of this season was to finish on the podium in the French GT championship as quickly as possible", declared Patrick Selleslagh, team manager of SRT, after the race on Saturday. "We got our first podium today and after tomorrow's race we will focus on a good performance in the opening round of the FIA GT Citation Cup in Silverstone next week." Laurent Cazenave and Eric Cayrolle drove to a very good third place in the opening race of the second FFSA GT meeting of the year, right behind both Oreca Saleens. On Sunday the French drivers came home in fifth after a stunning come back by Eric Cayrolle.

The beautiful French track of Lédenon was the host for the second round of the French GT championship. As usual, the B drivers qualified for the first race and they also took the start. Laurent Cazenave drove the blue and yellow Corvette C5-R of SRT to a strong third on the grid. Cazenave: "I was right on the pace and was close to pole position during the entire qualifying session. Finally, I finished third, only three and two tenths behind the first and second on the grid, but I was not completely satisfied. I could have been even better."

Cazenave made a brilliant start and was second only metres after the green lights. Only a few laps later, he passed the leader, Narac, and took first position. Cazenave maintained the lead until the mandatory pitstops. "The fight with Narac was very good one, his Saleen was maybe somewhat better, but I was faster in overtaking the backmarkers." Half way, Eric Cayrolle took over the Corvette, but was unable to beat the Oreca machines. "They were simply too fast and I decided to secure third. Finally, I think, we were best of the rest. SRT finished ahead of Larbre, PSI and Alphand, which is, I think, a very nice performance", said the man from Pau. "My tires were better than in Nogaro, but I preferred to finish third instead of taking any risks, as a podium meant a lot to the team."

Sunday qualifying was less successful for the Belgian team. "I had no free lap and didn't find the good pace. I did not get any higher than tenth and feel really sorry for the team", admitted Eric Cayrolle after qualifying. The former ETCC driver took the start on Sunday and drove a superb stint. He took the Corvette from tenth to sixth, a stunning performance on a track where it's hard to overtake. Despite a race incident, Laurent Cazenave came home fifth.

"After all a fine result", explained Patrick Selleslagh. "Laurent was hit by a backmarker and lost fourth and possibly also a podium spot. I feel sorry for him and Eric as they both drove a very good race. But we score points again and the team feels confident before our debut in the FIA GT Citation Cup next week in Silverstone."
