Podium at Le Mans!

LE MANS. The sixth weekend of the French GT-championship, FFSA-GT for short, offered up another podium place for SRT. The occasional duo Guino Kenis and Eric Cayrolle clinched an excellent second place on Saturday and scored a well deserved ninth place on the Sunday. On the other hand for Thierry Stepec and Romain Brandella it was a first introduction to the Corvette C5-R, which resulted in an 18th and 14th place. "The competition at Le Mans were my first races in this French championship and I even had the satisfying taste of taking the lead in one of the races.", a contented Guino Kenis told us. "You can't really expect more than that for a debut. It was a truly great experience for me, which most probably will be repeated." After this success the SRT team is staying on in France, where it will be competing in the last races of the French GT-championship at Magny-Cours this coming weekend.

The debut of Guino Kenis in the French GT-championship raised many an eyebrow amongst the aficionados. On the Saturday he promptly drove into second place during the qualifying sessions. "The car was really good and I improved my time lap after lap, which additionally gave me a positive feeling for the race itself." the driver from the Belgian Kempen commented later. And optimism was the order of the day, because after a mere six laps Kenis came through the start-finish line in the lead. He retained same until the halfway mark, when handing over the relay. "I'm quite amazed at what my Belgian team mate showed us. Unfortunately I was unable to hold off the Saleen of Soheil Ayari and we finally finished in second spot." an almost apologetic Eric Cayrolle said after the race. For Cayrolle this was his first podium since 2004 and the Frenchman also showed signs of being really satisfied.

On Sunday Cayrolle wasn't able to follow through the same line. He qualified 10th and also handed over the Corvette to Kenis in this same position. "The difference with the leaders had become too big and notwithstanding the fact that Guino was also pretty fast he wasn't able to repeat his performance of yesterday. A great pity, but at least he has left his visiting card here", Patrick Selleslagh commented and summed up the rest of the event. "Strepec and Brandella were only here to get to know the car and gain some experience. They were satisfied with the result and the progress made."

Eric Cayrolle and Thierry Soave on the one hand and Christophe Bouchut together with Bervillé on the other will be defending the SRT colours next weekend during the final round of the French GT-championship.
