THE MUSTANG GT3 MAKES PROGRESS

The Ford Mustang GT3 of the Marc VDS Racing Team stepped back into action this weekend. On the track of Magny-Cours, Maxime Martin and Gael Lesoudier finished 8th in the first race of the final meeting for the French GT Championship, in the second race mechanical problems caused their retirement.

The last round of the French GT championship and Gentlemen Trophy reserved for GT3-drivers was held this weekend in Magny-Cours. The Marc VDS Racing Team noted some very interesting progress on their Ford Mustang GT3.

Gael Lesoudier took the start of the first race in 9th and held that position until the driver change with Maxime Martin. "At the beginning of my stint I was able to lap at a quicker pace than Gael's", the Belgian explained. "But tire wear became too important and I had to slow down, which is why we dropped from 6th to 8th."

On Sunday Maxime Martin took the start in 10th. At the end of the first lap he was in 8th, but then fell victim - as did a lot of the other drivers - to an enormous oil patch, caused by another car. After a short excursion in the gravel trap Maxime Martin climbed back from 14th to 12th, before handing over the Mustang to Gael Lesoudier. "At the start of my stint everything went well", he states. "But then the power steering failed and the exhaust fell off the car. Retirement was inevitable."

Bad luck, but the Marc VDS Racing Team is still looking forward with great optimism. "It's true that the car starts to handle less well towards the end of the races, but we do have the speed: I was only two tenths of a second slower than the quickest of laptimes", Maxime Martin adds. "There is still a lot to do, but we are sure now that the Mustang can hold its own in the GT3-category. That gives us hope for the future!"
