Great interest and final calendar published for newly launched GT4 European Series

The season of the GT4 European Series will start in the weekend of 10 and 11 May 2014 at the Italian racing track Misano.

WIEHL –The newly launched GT4 European Series has a great outlook for the coming year, as it enjoys interest of more than twenty-five racing teams from across Europe. Meanwhile more details on the racing series are known. The final calendar shows six attractive events in five different European countries.

The season of the GT4 European Series will start in the weekend of 10 and 11 May 2014 at the Italian racing track Misano. Followed by races in the frame of the prestigious Masters of Formula 3 at the Dutch racetrack Zandvoort (4 – 6 July) and the 24 Hours of Spa in Belgium (24 –26 July).

Next stop is the high-tech French circuit Paul Ricard, in the weekend of 30 and 31 August. Three weeks later, 20 and 21 September, the GT4 teams make their appearance at the Nürburgring (Germany). The last stop of the attractive calendar is at Monza (Italy), 25 and 26 October.

Keeping GT-racing affordable is the philosophy of the GT4 European Series. Therefore the organization limits the weekends to two-day events, except for two major events with Masters of Formula 3 and the 24 Hours of Spa. The use of new tires is restricted. The total costs of a season GT4 isalmost four times lower than racing in the GT3-category. The Balance of Performance is the responsibility of SRO (Stéphane Ratel Organisation) and ensures a great level of competition, as we saw this in recent years in the European GT4 Trophy and Dutch GT Championship.

On the website of the GT4 European Series a list of interested teams is published, with more than twenty-five teams from Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Sweden. Teams can register as PRO/AM oras AM/AM pair.

The competitive Dutch GT Championship merged with the European GT4 Trophy to the GT4 European Series. This probably brings former Dutch GT teams at the start of the GT4 European Series. Among them the Dutch champions of Las Moras Racing Team with foreman Duncan Huisman. “The best of this series is for sure the PRO-AM format”, says Huisman. “Without amateur drivers there’s no budget for pro’s. We want to elaborate next year on the speed and reliability, that we finally have with our Chevrolet Camaro’s.”

The GT4 Series has the attention of Daniel Haglöf, driver for PWR Racing Team. The Swedish team hopes to participate with an Aston Martin Vantage. “We like the concept, the GT4’s are fun cars to drive and the economy is reasonable”, he says. “Also the pairing withPRO-AM has benefits, that AM drivers can compete in an European series against drivers at the same level.”

In recent years the starting grids of the GT4 races have been an attractive sight for car enthusiasts. Next year will be no different with astonishing cars like the Aston Martin Vantage GT4, BMW M3, Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette C6, Ginetta G55, Lotus Evora GT4, Mazda MX5, Porsche 911 GT4 and Toyota GT86 available.
