Hohenadel scored points at Assen
Christian Hohenadel (Quierschied) travelled after his double victory in the FIA GT3-European Championship at Le Castellet two weeks ago with high expectation to the Netherlands for fourth round of the German ADAC GT Masters at the TT Circuit in Assen. In the only race of the national German series outside of Germany, Hohenadel scored a tenth and a seventh place along with teammate Toni Seiler in a Callaway Competition-Corvette Z06.R GT3.
Saturday's first race started promising for Hohenadel and Seiler. Swiss-Sportscar-Veteran Seiler drove the start and handed over the yellow Corvette to Hohenadel just as the pit stop window opened. A few minutes after Hohenadel started his stint, thing went a bit chaotic on the TT Circuit. An accident brought out the Safety-Car and after the restart, a heavy shower reshuffled the field. Hohenadel had bad luck when the Safety-Car deployed, as the Corvette was just behind the Safety Car und thus lost one lap. Hohenadel tried to fight back and showed a brilliant piece of car control, when you was driving on slicks in the rain and gained two positions. But six lap before the flap felt, the rain got heavier and Hohenadel eventually had to pit for rain tires. He finally finished in tenth position. "The Safety Car ruined our strategy and our race", Hohenadel said after the race. "Due to the Safety Car, we lost one lap and every chance of a good finish."
In the second race on Sunday, Hohenadel started from seventh position under sunny skies. "We had some problems with the grip during qualifying, so seventh place is not really what we were looking for", Hohenadel explained. After the start, Hohenadel had a long and hard fight with a Porsche. "I was clearly quicker then the Porsche in front of me, but that guy blocked me really good."With a very late pit stop, Hohenadel gained two positions and handed the Corvette to teammate Toni Seiler in fifth spot. Seiler lost two places during his stints and Hohenadel/Seiler finished seventh. "The weekend did not went as expected", Hohenadel said after Sunday's race. "We had hoped for a better result. In Sunday's race, there was an early Safety-Car, which did not go well with our strategy. I also lost a lot of time behind the Porsche who blocked me. Now we are really looking forward to the next race at the EuroSpeedway Lauitz in four weeks. Two years ago, I scored a Pole Position there and last year we won the race there, so I have really high expectation for the next race."
