Throughout the winter and in early spring there was nothing but good news for the French FFSA GT Championship. Hexis Racing started the ball rolling well before anybody else by announcing its return and the names of its four drivers at the wheel of the team’s two McLaren MP4-12Cs.
Seven makes will be represented among the 26 cars that will turn up in the Sarthe: Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Nissan and McLaren.
Hexis Racing is running one of the two former F1 drivers in the field, Olivier Panis, the other being the 1997 world champion, Jacques Villeneuve.
The field consists of top-class teams and there are around fifteen possible victory contenders in the two 1-hour races on this weekend’s programme.
The 2011 FIA GT1 World Champions are among these when it comes to forecasting the result. Panis with his old mate Eric Debard and Laurent Cazenave with local driver Jean-Claude Police are determined to burn up the track - all the more so as one of the Hexis Racing McLarens is on the official poster!
Also it is vital for the team to put its Monza setback at the opening round of the Blancpain Endurance Series ten days ago behind it.
“We’ve just been through a rough patch, but it’s not the first time and we’re not going to give up,” says team manager Philippe Dumas. “I’ve got 200 percent confidence in the team and the drivers. We’re going to stick together come hell or high water!”
