Schroeder Puts TRV Riley & Scott in the Field for the Rolex 24

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Jan. 29 - Jeret Schroeder of Vineland, N.J., will start 18th Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona at Daytona International Speedway. A total of 78 cars are entered in the event, America's premier sports car endurance race.

Schroeder toured the 3.56-mile road course at an average speed of 117.02 mph in TRV Motorsport's yellow and black Supreme Exhaust System Products Chevy Riley & Scott. The car is number 95 and carries associate sponsorship from Purity Farms and LCF Associates.

Joining Schroeder behind the wheel will be team owner Tom Volk of Blissfield, Mich.; Trans-Am veteran R.J. "Dick" Valentine of Braintree, Mass., and World Sports Car veteran Paul Debban of Malibu, Calif. Ready to step in if necessary is Indy 500 veteran Lyn St. James of Indianapolis and Daytona Beach.

The TRV team, which is based in Toledo, Ohio, doesn't concentrate on qualifying, preferring to spend its valuable pre-race time and its assets working on its race set-up. "In a race that is 24 hours long, where you start isn't that important," Volk explained. "Our goal is to finish. It's our toughest race of the year, but we'll give it our best shot."

Last year the TRV team, which competes with primarily an all-volunteer crew against factory-backed teams with much bigger budgets, finished an incredible seventh in the Can-Am class in this race. It did even better at the Exxon Superflo 12 Hours of Sebring, coming in fourth in class. The real highlight of the season, however, was the third-place finish in class that Schroeder and Volk recorded in a shorter race at Homestead, Fla., last May.

There is a half-hour warm-up session slated for 9 a.m. Saturday before the start of the Rolex 24 at 1 p.m. Then it's the long grind of 24 hours of competition, with all the teams hoping that they'll be around for the finish at 1 p.m. Sunday.

ESPN2 will cover the start and the finish live with broadcasts on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

A 90-minute highlights show is also scheduled for ESPN the following Saturday night, Feb. 6, at 12:30 a.m.
