On Friday evening (9th December) JRM Racing’s Michael Krumm and Lucas Luhr were presented with their awards for winning the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship for drivers at the official FIA gala ceremony held in New Delhi.

The event in India celebrated the winners of all FIA sanctioned championships, including Formula One and the World Rally Championship, with drivers, teams and motorsport personalities from all over the world attending this spectacular occasion. For Michael, Lucas and the whole JRM Racing team, winning the Drivers’ title was the culmination of two years hard work and receiving the FIA awards was a very proud moment for everyone involved.

This year saw the FIA GT1 World Championship comprise ten rounds of two races at ten different venues, with the season kicking off in the UAE in March. After five rounds in Europe, the global series then went to China in September for two rounds, before the grand finale in Argentina in November.

An what a finale it was: Driving JRM Racing’s Nissan GT-R no 23, Michael and Lucas wrapped up the title in the first of the weekend’s two one-hour races. They amassed enough points on Saturday to secure the crown - whatever happened in Sunday’s race two. And it was just as well they did, as their car ended race two in the wall when it was hit from behind during a massive start-line incident.

During the season the two German drivers scored four outright race wins, two second-places and a total of nine top-three finishes – plus they claimed the coveted RAC Tourist Trophy by winning at Silverstone. In fact, it was probably only the success ballast they had to carry as a result of their victories that held them back from extending an unassailable lead over the rest of the field.

They were the only drivers who finished 19 of the 20 races this season and this impressive record is not only testimony to their skills, but also a credit to the team for producing a car that was both highly competitive and extremely reliable.

Team Quotes

Michael Krumm
“It’s been an incredible year and only now that I have been presented with the award for winning the FIA GT1 World Championship has it really sunk in. The season didn’t start so well, but then to win four races really put us in a great position to secure the title at the last round in Argentina. I have to thank everyone at JRM, Nissan, NISMO and of course Lucas, for all they have done to make this achievement possible.”

Lucas Luhr
“Receiving the award for winning the FIA GT1 World Championship is a perfect end to what has been a fantastic season. The Nissan GT-R has been strong at nearly all of the circuits we’ve been to this year and we won more races than any other team. Of course, this gave us a great advantage. I therefore must thank Nissan, NISMO and JRM for providing us with such a fantastic car and Michael for doing such a great job.”

Nigel Stepney (Team Manager and Chief Engineer)
"It is absolutely fantastic to have won the GT1 Drivers' world title in what is only our second season of competition as a company. It’s a credit to everyone involved: Michael, Lucas, JRM, Nissan and NISMO for their commitment and support. Although I experienced winning world titles while I was working in Formula 1, this is by far the most satisfying achievement of them all.”

James Rumsey (Team Principal)
“To claim the Drivers’ title is fantastic and to achieve this in just two years makes me very proud of everyone involved. JRM Racing and our technical partners, Nissan and NISMO, have gone above and beyond to make our FIA GT1 World Championship aspirations a reality and Michael and Lucas’ title is testament to the effectiveness of our Anglo – Japanese partnership. I would like to personally thank Nissan and NISMO, the JRM Group Engineering team, the JRM Group factory staff and away team members, plus - most importantly - the fans. It’s been a truly wonderful season which we will all remember for the rest of our lives.”
