Mad Croc Racing racing for legendary Trophy
SILVERSTONE -- UK. The Tourist Trophy is probably the most prestigious GT Trophy in the world. Since 1905 the most important racing drivers from all over the world try to put their names on the list of honour. Mad- Croc Racing wouldn't be Mad-Croc Racing if the team would not be on the front row to conquer the Trophy. Xavier Maassen and new-comer Nicolas Armindo in the #11 Mad Croc Racing Corvette C6.R and Corvette factory driver Oliver Gavin and Finland's GT legend Pertti Kuismanen in the #12 Mad Croc Racing Corvette C6.R are defending the team's chances in Silverstone.
The Mad-Croc Racing Corvettes ended as high as 16th and 20th position in qualifying. In Q1 Oliver Gavin showed his speed by driving the Corvette into 2nd position. Oliver's team mate, Pertti Kuismanen, took to the wheel for Q2 and posted his best time of the weekend so far in the SRT/DKR run C6.R. With far less experience than his British team mate, and only limited laps of the new Silverstone Arena track due to an engine problem earlier during the meeting, this placed the Finn in 16th place. Meanwhile a technical problem ruined the chances of the French-Dutch driver paring in the other Corvette. Xavier Maassen struggled with a damper problem and ended up in 20th position.
Oliver Gavin: "I came in to save the tyres for the race as we only get four sets for the whole weekend. The car was good although we still need to work on it a bit. We're searching for the right wing levels, ride heights, springs and so on, but I think with what we've got we've done well. Patrick [Selleslagh] has done a first class job with the tools he has at his disposal, as always, and there's a great spirit in the team."
Xavier Maassen: "Bad luck, that's all I can say... It's a technical sport and such things happen, but on the other hand I see it as a challenge for this afternoon's race!"
With 12th and 13th place in the first race, there were mixed emotions in the Mad-Croc Racing team.
Nicolas Armindo: "It's my debut in a GT1 car and I'm very happy with my pace. I did a trouble free stint, my lap times were good and we made up 8th places in this highly competitive competition. That's really good. On the other hand with a better qualifying result, it wouldn't have been 12th... So it's difficult to tell you if I'm happy or not... But tomorrow is another day and another race!"
Mad-Croc Racing drivers are also all round sportsmen with the right spirit , that proved Oliver Gavin the week before the GT1 racing in Silverstone by finishing the Virgin London Marathon in a time of 2 hours 54 minutes and 20 seconds, setting a new personal best time and also helping to raise over £88,000 for the CLIC Sargent children's cancer charity.
