At the end of November 2011, after winning the FIA GT1 World Championship title, Hexis was the first team to announce its entry for the 2012 contest with two of the new McLaren MP4-12C GT3s. Today, it stays a few steps ahead of its rivals by unveiling its two driver line-ups. Frédéric Makowiecki, Stef Dusseldorp, Alvaro Parente and Grégoire Demoustier represent a balanced team with two members of the Hexis family and two newcomers. There is an identical 50/50 share-out between drivers with well-established international reputations and very promising young chargers. In the same spirit half the drivers in the team are of French nationality. The cars’ livery has been signed off and tests will begin next week on the Lédenon circuit.
The story of the Hexis team began in Formula Renault some ten years ago. The second decisive step was the purchase of a Porsche Cup, with which the team managed by Philippe Dumas learned the ropes of grand touring racing. Hexis then acquired a reputation on the international scene by giving Aston Martin Racing numerous victories in the French, German and European GT3 Championships before winning the FIA GT1 world title. The arrival of the two McLarens in the team’s workshops is the start of a new era at the same time as the championship is at a key turning point. The adoption of the GT3 regulations means a complete shakeup of the field. Hexis already knows that three of its rivals will be teams representing Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz AMG.
Philippe Dumas: “We’re doing our first test session on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th February at Lédenon with Fred and Stef. We’re tackling the new season with three objectives: show McLaren that we’re the best team to build a long-term relationship, enjoy ourselves as much as ever as it’s one of the keys to our success, and last but not least – win!”
The FIA GT1 World Championship will kick off on 8th April on the Nogaro circuit in the Gers on which cars bearing the Hexis colours made their debut start back in 2002 during the same Easter weekend!
