Mutsch: 'Today is a new day, yesterday is forgotten'

Thomas Mutsch and Richard Westbrook put the disappointment of their early exit from yesterday's Qualifying Race to set the fastest time in morning Warm-up as the teams made final preparations for this afternoon's Championship Race.

The Matech Competition pair produced a best lap of 1:33.536 in their Ford GT. Second fastest was Frank Kechele and Ricardo Zonta in the Reiter Lamborghini No.25 with a time of 1:34.312.

Third was the sister Matech Ford GT No.6 of Neel Jani and Nicolas Armindo with 1:34.517.

"Today is a new day, yesterday is forgotten," said Mutsch who still has a mathematical chance of overhauling drivers' championship leaders Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels in the Vitaphone Maserati No.1. "We are starting last on the grid today but we have still got to fight. The race will be hard-fought so we have to keep pushing."

The gap to the Maserati pair is 35 points so the Matech No.5 will need to finish ahead at the flag and hope for a similarly strong showing in San Luis. As it stands, there are still 58 points to play for.

The battle behind has intensified after the Qualifying Race results. Victory for Young Driver Aston Martin's Tomas Enge and Darren Turner has elevated them to third place on 86 points in the drivers' standings.

Phoenix Corvette driver Marc Hennerici is fourth on 84 points while Reiter Engineering Lamborghini's Frank Kechele is just one point behind in fifth.

In the teams' championship, Vitaphone Mserati (160 points) leads Reiter (142), Sumo Power GT (120), Young Driver (118) and Hexis AMR (114).

Watch the Championship Race LIVE on GT1TV at 15:00 local (18:00 CET) this afternoon.
