SRT third in Citation Cup at Nogaro, place of honour in FFSA-GT
NOGARO. The FIA GT Citation Cup, similar to the French GT championship held this weekend in Nogaro were the penultimate meetings of the season. SRT travelled on down to the south of France with the Frenchmen Lebon and Merafina in the Citation Cup, whilst Cazenave and Cayrolle remain as the fixed drivers for the French championship. SRT finished third in the Citation Cup and fourth and sixth in the FFSA-GT.
"And I'm actually quite satisfied with the results, even though we didn't always have luck coming our way", Patrick Selleslagh comments, looking back on the weekend. "We finished third in the Citation Cup, notwithstanding a drive-through and a time penalty and in the FFSA GT we scored our first pole position and with a fourth and sixth place in the races- that includes a nudge from another competitor - we are actually quite satisfied. But more importantly the cars are technically back on top form and all the worries of the previous weekends are now behind us."
For Wilfried Merafina the Citation Cup was the first introduction with a GT1 such as the Corvette. The Frenchman, who emanates from ice racing, adapted himself perfectly and was allowed to take on the qualifying sessions. "I stranded in fourth place in the CC, a mere one and a half seconds from Stephane Daoudi in the JMB Maserati and I reckon that is a pretty good result", the Frenchman laughed after the short qualifying stint. Merafina also took the start and halfway through climbed up into second place in the CC, prior to handing over to Lebon. Unfortunately Yvan Lebon came in a little bit too soon after his relay stint and therefore went back out on the track.for an extra lap. This saga was followed by a drive-through as the result of excessive speed in the pitlane and the second place disappeared under their noses. "However notwithstanding these cosmetic mistakes I can only state that Yvan and Wilfried, who were both making their debut in the CC, actually drove a very rigid and sober race", was Patrick Selleslagh's summary of the race.
In the FFSA GT on Saturday Laurent Cazenave scored his first pole position for SRT. The man from Pau was the fastest out of the B-drivers and also led the race during the first half. After the driver change over Cayrolle was unable to hold back the heavy competition, but was able to settle in with a small pack behind the leaders resulting in clinching a podium by a hair's breadth.
The second race was less easy. Cayrolle was well away and found himself within the top-5, but a nudge from another competitor stopped him and Cazenave from reaching the podium. The C5-R then climbed back up from nowhere in the rankings to finally cross the line in sixth place overall. The final round of the FFSA-GT is at Magny-Cours in a fortnight's time.
