Aston Martin quickest in soggy Free Practice

The Young Driver Aston Martin No.8 driven by Stefan Mucke and Christoffer Nygaard was fastest in Free Practice in wet conditions at Nurburgring.

The pair managed to get in a quick lap during a brief spell when the track was drying slightly but for the most part the GT1 field battled treacherous track conditions as heavy showers fell throughout the 80 minutes.

They managed a time of 2minutes 13.147 seconds on a drying line - 1.5 seconds quicker than Marc Basseng and Thomas Jager in the All-Inkl.com Munnich Motorsport Lamborghini No.37.

The Matech Competition Ford GT No.5 of Thomas Mutsch and Richard Westbrook was third.

The top six cars represented each of the six manufacturers in the championship.

The GT1 cars took to the extremely wet Nurburgring circuit this morning for the Free Practice session. As the weather changed It turned out to be a good result for the No.8 Young Driver Aston Martin with a time of 2:13.147.

Stefan Mucke explains "The conditions were difficult, sometimes it was very wet so we had to stop completely because there was just too much water on the track. Generally the car is pretty good so I am happy with that. This is my home race, my home track and we were the fastest."

The All-Inkl.com Lamborghini team produced a good result with the second fastest time of the session, Dominik Schwager of the Lamborghini No.38 said: "I think practice was pretty good.

"When I was in the car it was raining quite a lot so it was difficult to judge the lap times but we look pretty good at the moment so we will see what its like in the dry but I'm confident.

"I really want that podium which we lost last time. So far so good. The car is pretty good, there are still some little things to sort out but in general we're happy, we should be up there."

Because of the changeable conditions it was tough to find a good set up, according to Christopher Nygaard of the No.8 Aston Martin. "We need a set up which suites both wet and dry here at Nurburgring; that is the sort of weather we are predicting from what we've heard so far.

"As for Free Practice this morning it was hard to find exactly what we needed but it is the same for everybody so its OK."

The Sumo Power GT Nissan GT-R's wear the top of the order for most of the 80-minute session but fell to sixth and seventh. Michael Krumm, the No.23 driver said: "This practice session was a little frustrating because we couldn't identify a decent set up because the weather was all over the place.

"Having said that it's always good to practice and we got some good feedback for the car on this track. I'm looking forward to the second practice later on, maybe the weather will be better, we'll see."
