Aston Martin Racing DBR9 faces a challenging UK debut

Following an unexpected Class win at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March, Aston Martin Racing's DBR9 faces a tough challenge at its UK debut at Silverstone in the 3rd round of the FIA GT Championship on May 15th.

Racing for the first time in the FIA series, the DBR9 must carry 40kg of "new car" ballast which will prove demanding for the car's performance in the highly competitive GT1 class.

George Howard-Chappell, Team Principal of Aston Martin Racing, said: "Whilst our Sebring result was very encouraging and a real testament to the team, the DBR9 is still a new car and Silverstone will be important preparation for both our team and drivers ahead of Le Mans next month. It will also be the first time the car has raced with the ballast it must carry under FIA rules.

"Despite this, we know from Sebring that the overall package is fast. Also, some of our competitors are carrying success ballast, so I hope we can still give the Maseratis, Ferraris and the Saleens a good run for their money, as well as getting a very good idea of the pace of the DBR9 against established FIA GT competitors."

Driving the DBR9 in its UK debut will be Peter Kox and Pedro Lamy in car number 28, with the green and red livery, whilst David Brabham and Darren Turner will drive car number 29 in green and yellow livery.

David Brabham, who took the chequered flag at Sebring, said: "Silverstone is the ideal place for the UK debut of Aston Martin Racing's DBR9 UK debut at the race, particularly as it is the Centenary of the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy. Whatever the outcome of the race it will be a fantastic opportunity for the British fans will get a closer look at the car."
