Full Speed Racing set for FIA GT debut
Full Speed Racing are set for their first appearance in the FIA GT Championship this weekend as the pan-European series visits Silverstone to fight for the prestigious 'Tourist Trophy' at the 2009 season opener.
While the squad have never raced under the 'Full Speed Racing' banner before, they possess a wealth of sportscar and GT racing experience from the Le Mans Series, Le Mans 24 Hours and FIA GT Championship. They will field a pair of Saleen S7Rs in the premier GT1 category.
A strong driver line-up should ensure the team enjoy a positive maiden season, with four experienced GT racers confirmed in the team's pair of American-built muscle cars.
Car #11 will see Luke Hines, competing at his home race, partnering Belgian Stephane Lemeret, with car #13 pairing Italian Ferdinando Monfardini with Frenchman Michel Orts.
All four drivers have tested the Saleens over the past few weeks, along with GT star and Full Speed Racing test driver Johnny Mowlem who has helped the team with set-up work during the winter, leaving Team Principal Graham Nash eagerly anticipating the season opener.
"Everyone is looking forward to Silverstone and finally getting to race the cars in anger," he said. "We had a very productive day at the Official Group Test at Paul Ricard where all four drivers got some valuable track time and we've also tested at Donington since then.
"We've put this project together in a short time frame and we've made a lot of progress. It has been hard work, but when we see our cars out there racing this weekend it will all be worthwhile and a very proud moment for everybody involved with Full Speed Racing."
The opening round of the FIA GT Championship takes place at Silverstone on Sunday 3 May.
