The opening round of the FIA GT Championship in Zhuhai was a race with a positive and a negative outcome for All-Inkl.com Reiter Lamborghini. Christophe Bouchut and Stefan Mücke won the race and gave Lamborghini a historic first win in a major international championship. The Italian car manufacturer now joined the winning makes in the FIA GT Championship, along with McLaren, Mercedes, Porsche, Chrysler, Lister, Ferrari, Maserati, Saleen Aston Martin and Corvette. Unfortunately for Jos Menten and his team mate Peter Kox the race did not turned out the way they had hoped. In the early stages of the race the Dutch duo lost three laps after Kox collided with Barwell Motorsports' Aston Martin DBR-9. Eventually Menten and Kox finished twelfth overall.
"China brought us only bad luck. Honestly, it was a race to forget for Peter and I, although I am happy to have had some extra mileage with the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT. Two weeks ago we completed a three-day test session in Rockingham, together with our tire partner Michelin. The results were satisfying", says the Haelen ace. "Following the strong result of Christophe and Stefan we are now leading the teams' championship. Nevertheless we have to be realistic about our chances. Surely the potential is there but we still don't have the speed to attack the favourites. But that won't stop us from defending All-Inkl.com Reiter Lamborghini's first place in the team's championship."
In preparation of the second heat of the FIA GT Championship Jos Menten travelled to Silverstone three weeks ago: "The duration of the FIA GT- events was brought down to two days. As a result you have one day less to learn the track. Of course that's a major disadvantage at tracks where I haven't raced before. This year it's more important than ever to find the right set-up as quickly as possible, in order to work out a suitable race strategy. Therefore I travelled to Silverstone three weeks ago, to learn the track with a Lotus Elise. I like the track lay-out and there are some challenging corners. I am convinced that it will be an interesting race. About twenty GT1-cars will be on the grid in Silverstone, where we will see the start of the Citation Cup, with at least six cars competing within the FIA GT Championship", says Jos Menten.
