The 2006 FIA GT Championship gets underway next weekend (5-7 May) with the Supercar Showdown at Silverstone. The Scuderia Ecosse team is running two Ferrari 430s at this event: for reigning British GT Champions, Nathan Kinch & Andrew Kirkaldy, and one for the winners of the opening rounds of the 2006 British GT Championship, Chris Niarchos & Tim Mullen.
Nathan Kinch: "The FIA GT Championship is a huge step up for us from British GTs. We're now up against the likes of Mika Salo, Matteo Bobbi and Jamie Melo, so Andrew (Kirkaldy) and I have our work cut out for us. We're confident we will do a good job and I don't believe there is a better team out there. We have a great car, great tyres and a great team so we're feeling optimistic. The first race will give us a good indication as to where we stand competitively. With nobody running ballast in the first race it will be clear to see if we're doing everything right!"
Chris Niarchos: "Tim (Mullen) and I have a big year ahead of us. Taking on the FIA GT Championship, on top of our British campaign, is a huge undertaking, but the more track time I have the better it gets! We won the first two races of the British GT Championship at Oulton Park a couple of weeks ago, so we're fired up and ready for Silverstone. We know the stakes are higher in FIA GTs but so are the rewards so we can't wait to get stuck in. The Ferrari is amazing on Michelins and I thoroughly enjoy every second behind the wheel. I also love racing at Silverstone so I think everything is in place for a first class weekend of racing."
Stewart Roden: "The whole team is looking forward to the FIA GT Championship as it's a good season of top competition for us. I think it will be the toughest ever test of our mettle but with two strong driver pairings, the best car and fantastic tyres we are confident that we can do a good job. It's important that we work steadily through the season, keeping a positive momentum going. There aren't many weekends off between now and the autumn so we don't want to be having too many surprises!"
The Silverstone FIA GT race is the 2006 RAC Tourist Trophy. It starts at 1330hrs on Sunday 7 May and runs for a maximum of three hours.
