OLIVER GAVIN JOINS SRT FOR SPA 24 HOURS
Corvette Racing's Oliver Gavin has agreed a deal with leading Belgian FIA GT sportscar entrant, Selleslagh Racing Team (SRT), to be part of its driver line-up for the Spa 24 Hours on 26/27th July.
For his second outing at the Spa classic, round four of the 2009 FIA GT Championship, the 36-year-old from Yardley Hastings, Northamptonshire will be taking to the wheel of the SRT Corvette C6.R with highly experienced Belgian Bert Longin, the reigning FIA GT3 Champion, James Ruffier of France, and former Belgian GT Champion, Maxime Soulet.
As a four-time Le Mans GT1 Champion and three-time ALMS Drivers Champion, Oliver brings to SRT an enormous bank of technical and racing knowledge which, combined with his team mates' experience at Spa and with the Corvette C6.R, offers the team an extremely strong chance for success.
Oliver said today: "I'm delighted to be driving for SRT in the Spa 24 hours this year. It's quite a late deal because everyone's been working hard to try and get their plans together, but I'm very happy to be returning to Spa for the first time since 2007 [when Oliver competed in the 24 Hours with Luc Alphand Aventures' Corvette]. Spa is a fantastic race track to compete at and, of course, the 24 Hours is a special event.
"We've got a line up of drivers with a huge amount of knowledge at Spa and in the Corvette, which I think gives us a really solid foundation to go into the race. SRT is a strong Belgian team with a great heritage at Spa and it's their home race and that gives me a lot of confidence.
"I remember meeting Patrick Selleslagh in 2003 at Pratt & Miller's race shop in the States when he was one of the very first Corvette C5R customers. He's been an extremely loyal and hard working privateer ever since that time and it's a testament to his determination that his team has continued racing and with good results, especially in the very competitive FIA GT Championship."
