The upcoming German round of the GT1-World Championship at the Nuerburgring (27. -- 29. August) is a season highlight for Young Driver AMR. The team is only ten days from starting its two Aston Martin DBR9 on the legendary track in the Eifel Mountains, which is also on home turf. Today German Young Driver AMR-driver Stefan Muecke (28, Berlin) explains what makes his home race so special.

Q: Stefan, you won the 1000km of the Nuerburgring last year in an Aston Martin-Le Mans Prototype. How would you judge the chance to be on the podium again this year?

"I really hope for a good result for me and my teammate Christoffer Nygaard. Our goal is clearly to finish on the podium. To repeat last year's victory would be great, but I think you can never plan a victory."

Q: What makes the Nuerburgring a special track for you?

"I really like the Nuerburgring and has been successful there throughout my career. It started years ago in the Formula ADAC, then DTM and the Le Mans Series. It's great that the Nuerburgring is the venue of the German GT1 World-round, the home advantage gives us loads of extra motivation."

Q: What is important on the Nuerburgring from a driver's perspective?

"The Nuerburgring is not an easy track, the conditions are very changeable. You can hardly find any other track that is so sensitive in terms of different temperatures. Even if you think you got a good set up, you can find yourself with completely no grip two hours later. The special charm is to find a set up that works good in all conditions. You have to find a good and clean set up with a good balance, that's the key at the "Ring". And of course, you always have very unstable und unpredictable weather conditions. One actually can say that only once the day is over you will know how the weather will be,"

Q: It's your first race with a GT1-racecar at the Nuerburgring, how would you judge the performance of your Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin DBR9 at the Nuerburgring?

"I suppose the Nuerburgring suits our car well. The first section, what we call the „Haug-Haken"in German, will be very difficult, as it's slow and not easy to drive. But beside that, the Nuerburgring offers fast and following corners and therefore should suit us well."

Q: We are in the premiere season of the GT1-Worldchampionship. What is your resume half way through the season about this new championship?

"The races are really exciting and dramatic, we are creating a good show for the spectators. Since the beginning of the season, there have been some up and downs with the "balance of performance"of the cars, but we are getting close to have a really fair balance. The championship offers great racing, I hope many fans will be at the "Ring" to cheer for us."

Q: And what is your personal resume for the first part of the season?

"In the first half, luck was not really on our side. But that's the past and we are only looking forward. We showed in many of the races that we have the speed, so I hope we can transform this into results and earn some more points in the championship in the second half of the season."
