Prediction for Zolder : Rain (of champagne) at the end of the weekend.
Contrary what everybody thinks it doesn't always rain in Belgium! The only rain predicted this weekend is under the podium. Everything is still possible in the various categories in the FIA GT. For the GT1 title there are l 9 drivers in contention (better than F1), and in GT2 there are still 3 duos that can claim the title. Belgian Racing has only one aim, victory in G2. But whatever happens there will be champagne!!! Indeed, 2007 has been a great success for the team based in Gembloux. An extraordinary performance in Romania, the very successful introduction of the Gillet Vertigo .5, second in Brno and victory in the G2 class in Nogaro...
Tony Gillet : "In 2006 the difference between the Gillet Vertigo and the fastest GT2 cars was around 4 seconds a lap. In Nogaro we reduced the gap to under 2 seconds. We have to admit that the new Pirelli tires and the better use of them contributed a lot in the performance. However we have to underline the excellent work the team made since the 24Hours of Spa-Francorchamps."
The race in Zolder is the second one at home for Belgian Racing; An advantage?
Bas Leinders : "It is true that this is the second race in Belgium, but it's not an advantage. It was rather a disadvantage. As it is against the rules to test on circuits where there is an FIA GT race. On numerous occasions we tried to find a track in order to test some new developments and new parts, but without success. Of course I know Zolder really well, I started my career here, my home town, Bree, is only 30 kilometres away, my parents still life there."
Renaud Kuppens : "It's great to have a second race in Belgium. In this way we can invite all our sponsors, partners and friends, who supported us the entire season and why not already sign some new contracts for next year...We are on the right track, a number of developments, better reliability and the latest results prove this..."
In short, big anticipation and much at stake for the boys from Namur.
We also would like to congratulate the "Mecs Foot Fauteuil Charleroi" for their bronze medal for Belgium at the World Cup in Tokyo (Japan). They defeated Japan in the small finale.
