Marc VDS Racing Team wants to end on a high note in Zolder

The Belgian circuit of Zolder is the setting of the last round of the FIA GT championship 2009. Three months after Spa the Marc VDS Racing Team races in front of their home crowd again, with the Ford GT driven by Bas Leinders and Renaud Kuppens. A great opportunity to end the season on a high note.

Sunday, 25th October is the last day of the FIA GT championship 2009, with an eighth round on the circuit of Zolder. "A part from the fact Renaud and I know this track very well, it is also very motivating to start in front of our fans again, a couple of months after the Spa 24 Hours", Bas Leinders states. "Since Portugal we have a new engineer, Eduardo Gimenez, and we have already made a lot of progress. We've managed to find some new settings and I can hardly wait to try them out on the track. I hope we will see some positive results."

"Furthermore, there are no long straights on the Zolder Circuit", Renaud Kuppens adds. "Usually, the 2009 cars have a big advantage on those portions, but that will not be the case here. And I am happy to see the Nissan back, for the first time since Spa, and am looking forward to a new and exciting duel."

In short, Zolder is a great opportunity to end this preparatory season on a high note. "In the end we are not able to say that we took an advantage, but that we have limited the damage!" Bas Leinders says. "It is now clear that the most of the 2009 cars, like the Maserati or the Corvette, can still drive in 2010, albeit with a kit which reduces the power. It seems that 2010 will be a transitory year for the whole FIA GT championship, but I gather we will perform better now than if we had not done this preparatory season." Meanwhile, the Marc VDS Racing has expanded ranks. "That was one of the targets for this year, make the team stronger. A part from Eduardo there is Patrick Paiez as the new chief mechanic and one of my former mechanics, which worked with me during my F3000- days, has also joined us. And we are still looking for an extra driver for 2010, since we will enter two cars."

There were some sporting highlights as well in 2009, like the points scored or the race in Oschersleben. "But then there was also the Spa 24 Hours: it is still hard to digest that engine failure, even though we made it to the finish line. We will try to erase that bad memory this weekend and thank our fans for their support", Bas Leinders states. "We will try to get some more points and maybe try to get into the top-6, why not. It will not be easy though, since there are 12 GT1's on the starting grid..."
